Windows Phone 8 is just six days away from market to release and Storyfic has explored many features of the upcoming WP8 mobile from Microsoft in past days. The most attracting feature for WP 8 would be its new Start Screen that most smartphone owners would love to have on their existing devices, though it was thought to be Micorsoft’s failure as it could not make its good effect on PCs. In case, you are an Android user and would love to try the WP 8 start screen on your smartphone, you came to the right place.
This app known as Launcher WP8, released by Google Play Store, brings the new Windows Phone start menu experience to Android phones for free, however, with its first lunch this app was available only in Chinese language and later on converted into British by a couple of XDA members.
The launcher replicates the Windows Phone 8 UI to quite an extent, and puts you in complete control over the modification of various home screen elements, including the overall theme, the number, title, placement & layout of tiles and the associated app shortcuts & widgets.
Moreover, the app comes with many options including support to pick icon images from SD card, built-in icons for number of apps, customize the size of the block grid and 8 different colors of block grids allowing it to be configured according to your taste.
Once you install LauncherWP8 and set it as the default Android home screen launcher, the whole new interface will immediately be applied to your device and you can now start making customizations as per your requirement and liking.
The launcher has a default layout sporting tiles of several sizes and colors, each mapped to a frequently used phone feature or app. You may change this layout by long pressing any one of these tiles to enter edit mode. While within this mode, you can reposition or unpin any tile. To edit a tile itself, hit the edit button at its top-left corner. The screen that follows lets you change the tile’s title, mapped app (shortcut), text color, background, icon and style etc.
